3D GRID ANALYSIS

What is it?

We like to place artwork on a real-world gridded shirt to ensure that size and location will look like what our clients are expecting. Going through this process is an extra step in printing custom shirts, but we’ve found that this prevents Size Surprise & Location Remorse™.

Since the size and location of a print are such critical decisions that need to be made when working on a shirt design, we came up with our 3D Grid Analysis as an additional visual comp. Screen printing and garment decorating is ultimately an analog process and using human analogs to map out print location only makes sense.

This process lengthens our preflight time a little, but we like to let our partners see exactly where and how a print will look on a three-dimensional body, with real world lighting.

How to use these

• Click on the image to download and then place your artwork on the grid at the size you want to print.
• Keep in mind that the grid is 1” in frequency and that frequency appears to get smaller as the body bends back and away from the lens with more distortion at the edges.
• For left or right chest placements, the recommended centering points would be center art to an imaginary line dropping vertically down the shirt from the either edge of the collar.
• For most chest placements, we suggest starting the image at around 3”- 4″ from the top of the collar.
• For general design placement, keep the bulk of a shorter image in the zone from the top of the collar to 8″ below the top of the collar.
• If the print requires text that can be read in full for someone to understand the design – we recommend the copy not exceed 10” in width.
